Samsung bringing UFC, X Games, and concerts to Gear VR

Samsung has just announced the launch of their latest product that will integrate with the Gear VR – Live Pass. Up until now we’ve just begun to scratch the surface of what the VR tech can bring to the table. Applications have been developed to be used in a variety of different niches including online casino games and athletic training programs. With Live Pass, Samsung is taking VR to a whole new level – bringing live events right to you.

Samsung announced that Live Pass will officially be rolled out in early June and at no cost to Gear Users. They’ve inked a deal with UFC fighting, X-games and several concerts. The first event that was broadcast on the VR headset was the UFC match between Jose Aldo and Max Holloway. In addition to the fight, fans were also treated to bonus coverage and highlights that took place both before and after the event.

In mid-July, the X Games Minneapolis will kick off and viewers will enjoy a front row seat as the BMX riders and skateboarders do their insane tricks. Viewers will get to see the games as never before as the top names in extreme sports in angles and close ups that can’t be matched during a regular TV broadcast.

If sports aren’t your scene, Samsung has inked also inked a deal with Live Nation to broadcast some concerts in August that feature international musical superstars. While the details haven’t yet been released, you can expect to see some big names performing.

Samsung is hoping that the Live Pass will provide a boost for their Gear VR headset. They’ll have to continue to add exciting sporting events and concerts to their lineup to ensure that the fans don’t feel like they should turn elsewhere to watch these live events. Based on the early reviews, Gear VR will have a lot of exciting live events to look forward in the months and years to come.
