De Gea Record Breaking

David de Gea is primed to enter 'Galácticos' territory. When he joins Real Madrid, he will write his name in the goalkeeping section of the transfer record books. Though the De Gea deal will come nowhere near the world-record 52.88 million that Juventus paid Parma for Gianluigi Buffon, the Spaniard will nevertheless have his own claims to fame. At present, a 35-40m figure is being spoken about to take De Gea to the Bernabéu, which will make him the second most expensive keeper ever, leaving the 30m Bayern Munich forked out for Manuel Neuer in the shade. In addition, De Gea will displace Jan Oblak, who cost 16m last summer from Benfica, as the priciest goalie in La Liga history. Furthermore, if we look at cumulative fees, De Gea will surpass Buffon in terms of total price. While the Italian has only made the one move in his career, the Spain international is set for a second. The first saw Manchester United splash out 20m to sign him from Atlético de Madrid; when we add this to the sum Real Madrid are going to cough up, the 24-year-old will have cost more than Buffon overall.
